Work Visa to Turkey

As we mentioned earlier, there are many types of visas for entering Turkey, but many employers and employees are unaware that it is possible to apply for a work visa to enter Turkey. Why a work visa, rather than a tourist visa followed by a work residence permit? There are several reasons, which we will explain in detail — the most important being entering the country officially and clearly for the purpose of work, and avoiding fines or, in some cases, deportation from Turkey due to violations of the Ministry of Labor's regulations concerning foreigners. You can contact Hallak Services Company for more details and to get started on this service properly. In this article, we outline the details that should be taken into consideration, following this table of contents:

  • Why we recommend the work visa

Obtaining a Work Visa to Turkey

  • After securing a preliminary contract and agreeing on the details, the process of obtaining a work visa to Turkey begins, as follows:

  • Book an appointment at the Turkish representative office (embassy/consulate) in the country where the person wishing to come to Turkey for work resides. Naturally, when booking the appointment, the reason for travel or visa type selected should be "work."

  • Read all the requirements, which are clearly listed on the Turkish visa website (we list them here), and prepare what is needed.

  • The employment contract is the first and most important document required for the application, and it must be official and signed by the company's manager or their legal representative.

  • The company's commercial registration in Turkey, certified by the notary.

  • The tax registration (tax plate), certified by the notary.

  • A specimen of the company manager's signature (issued by the notary).

  • Two recent personal photos.

  • A passport valid for more than 6 months.

  • A criminal record certificate / certificate of no criminal record, issued by the home country and certified by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • Travel insurance for the visa.

  • A flight reservation with travel dates matching the visa appointment date and the date of arrival in Turkey.

  • A hotel reservation matching the visa appointment date and the date of arrival in Turkey.

  • The employee's university degree or professional certificate, translated into Turkish.

  • Additional documents that the embassy may request depending on nationality and country of residence.

The Application Procedure for a Work Visa in Turkey

  1. After submitting all the required documents on the interview date set by the Turkish embassies or consulates abroad, the applicant is given a preliminary number, known as the reference number. This reference number must be sent to the company and must be used within less than ten days, or it will be considered void.

  2. After the reference number is sent, the company begins the process of applying for the work residence permit.

  3. After preliminary approval of the work residence permit, the work visa is approved.

  4. After entering Turkey, the employee's registration with the Ministry of Labor's social security system is activated, and from that point work proceeds officially and legally in Turkey.

Important Notes

  1. Companies wishing to bring in trained labor from outside Turkey must meet the requirements for employing foreign workers, in terms of capital and its movement, as well as the ratio of officially employed Turkish citizens to the number of foreigners. It must also be taken into account that the profession of the foreign worker coming to Turkey must be one that non-Turkish citizens are permitted to practice in Turkey.

  2. After entering Turkey, if the incoming employee does not like the job for one reason or another, can they refuse to work?

  3. The work permit or work residence permit qualifies its holder to reside and work in Turkey legally and lawfully, and to benefit from the advantages of the government social security system, both in terms of healthcare and the retirement plan. It should also be noted that any foreigner residing for work for five consecutive years is entitled to apply for Turkish citizenship, as are their family — their spouse and their children who have not yet turned eighteen.
